places to eat
We tend to go to Grosseto in the evening and eat in one of the restaurants around Piazza il Sale, or one of the side streets leading down to Piazza il Sale from the Duomo, there's quite a selection for every taste and wallet. Our favourite pizzeria at the moment is ‘Il Melograno’ in via Carlo Goldini or 'Irish Soul Pub' which sometimes has live music during the summer. My favourites are Al Numero 9, via degli Aldobrandeschi and Piccolino Osteria in via San Martino. Good for takeout pizza is Pizzeria Mezzo Metro in viale Europa, or if you are down by the beach near Alberese, there is the Pizzeria La Marremana
Close to home is Trattoria Le Mandorlaie which serves traditional food from the area, the antipasto misto is enormous with lots of different things and the meat main courses are really good too. They also have a very well chosen selection of wines. To top it off, it's not expensive either!
Outside of Grosseto, in the summer, we love going to Castiglione della Pescaia for an evenings wandering about, evening meal at any one of the restaurants that has space and ice cream. The kids love Marina di Grosseto as there's a Luna Park in the summer evenings and various restaurants and pizzerias.
A bit further away, but worth the drive for dinner, is the small hill top town of Pereta. Here there is the restaurant Trattoria Ristorante da Gaetano in via Roma - in high season you need to book in advance.
If you want the whole Italian food experience, then there's Gli Attortellati, strada provinciale 40, Trappola 39, Grosseto. You must book beforehand and dinner starts after 19.30 and is a fixed menu which is set by the first person to book for that evening! About €25 without wine a head and so much food but spread out over a few hours.
